Firefox ESR 31.2

Post by greenpus » Mon Nov 24, 2014 3:49 pm

I downloaded the msi version FirefoxESR-31.2.0-en-US and installed through GP. I noticed the ESR update channel isn't disabled like it was on 24.8.1.
Is this a mistake?? I would prefer this keep being disabled so users can't update.

I noticed the same and I don´t think it is ok.
When Mozilla releases next ESR-Version in week 50 or so all users will be prompted to update.
Can we have a bugfix until then?

If you just would let me know if it was your intention that users are able to update or if it was by mistake. Thank you!

DraconPern has a day job that keeps him extremely busy, he doesn't check this forum daily. If you have a support contract with him and he's ignoring requests, then you'd have good reason to be steamed. But assuming you're one of us free users then we really don't have much ground to stand on in terms of demanding a quick response to every question. When he gets a free moment and checks the forum he'll reply.

Assuming it's not a quirk caused by profile corruption I would guess it's unintentional, but you should be able to use group policy to disable the setting. The requisite settings appear to be under app.update.* - app.update.auto, app.update.enabled, and app.update.silent. Set them all to false, then leave a blank string in app.update.url, and updating should be disabled in the OU(s) the policy applies to.

Any updates here?

Firefox works well with deployment to the clients. But the automatic update is still installed.

News for the new version with the disabled update? :)

To be honest, my post only applies to the Community Edition, since the regular ESR can't pick up settings from group policy.

I honestly don't know why you'd ever want to deploy a non-CE version of Firefox through group policy, since then you'll have to roll your own way to change about:config settings instead of just relying on group policy to handle them. But to each their own.

But those are the settings to change if you want to disable all updates in FF.
