Won't stay pinned to Taskbar

Post by mikey_g22 » Tue Feb 09, 2010 11:42 am

For all of my Windows 7 users, each time I upgrade Firefox via group policy, if the user has previously pinned Firefox to the taskbar, it is automatically removed. The users have to know open Firefox through the Start Menu and then re-pin it to the taskbar. It is a problem since I try to make upgrades invisible to my users.

I was just thinking about this the other day. Microsoft gave us no built in group policy controls on what goes on the new task bar. They included ways to allow or disallow the pinning of programs but gave no control on pinning programs administratively. So in till they update group policy preferences or something else, I decided to block anyone from pinning anything to the task bar.

I have the same problem. I use group policy to deploy Firefox FrontMotion.
After updating Firefox not stay clipped to the taskbar. It is a problem for my users.
Any solutions?

Same problem here. Users want a transparent installation, but every time I upgrade Firefox, the Firefox icon disappears.

Recent versions of the MSI have had a version specific desktop shortcut. Users pin this and it gets removed and replaced with the newer version on upgrade. I think you can work around this by pinning the actual EXE from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe."

Not as good as Group Policy but... VBScript to Pin items to Task Bar.

Right now the icons are 'advertised shortcuts'. But yes you are right, they do get replaced. I'll take a look and see if there's a way to preserve them.
