Certainly the symptoms are not identical, but in both cases, the URL handler is broken. That's close enough that I'd certainly start by installing the fix to the URL handler breakage.teresem7 wrote:Read the thread you referred to, seems like a different issue to me.

Re: FMFirefoxCE 4.0 internet shortcut errors
She's the only one in the group of 7 users (including myself) that I've been testing the upgrade from 3.6 to 4.0 on. What release of the FrontMotion packages are you using? The first FrontMotion build had a bug involving URL handler associations, and then there was a bug with the installer. 4.0.1.2...

Well, that's what it's supposed to be. So much for that theory. Hmmm.

Re: Firefox 4.0.1.2 - corrupting Windows icons
The shortcut icons that were corrupted were: PDF shortcuts and internet shortcuts. (Internet Explorer 6 is the default browser, Adobe Reader X is the default PDF reader) That is interesting. There have been some install-related glitches with both PDF and MSIE in 4.0.1. What's this registry key (def...

Re: Firefox 4.0.1.2 - corrupting Windows icons
Deploying Frontmotion 4.0.1.2 in the test network. Installation corrupts a few shortcuts on the desktop. The shortcuts are all working correctly, i.e. when they are double clicked, however they do not show the correct file type association. You write "a few shortcuts". Does that mean that some shor...

Re: Acrobat Plugin/Viewing Broken with Firefox 4.0.1.1 MSI
I guess I'm surprised no one else has seen this issue yet. Well, I can't speak for others, but we disable the PDF plugin anyway. We found it to be a source of all sorts of trouble (browser instability, security attacks, weird errors, update glitches, etc.), even before we started deploying Firefox....

Can you explain what you mean by "killed", i.e., symptoms, error messages, any investigation you did?

It's Firefox release 4.0.1 with a fix applied to the FrontMotion packaging. More here:

Wow, that was quick. Thanks! I'll test as soon as I can, but might be a day or two before I can get to it. Lots of stuff going on right now.

In the GPO I'm using the firefox adm and have it set to: Disable changing Automatic Configuration settings Enabled I've also set the Automatic Configuration URL to the following: I haven't looked at the ADM, so I don't know, but in the regular Firefox GUI, in addition to filling in the URL, one mus...

Re: Sample MST for download?
A sample MST isn't going to help you without an editor like ORCA (MST is a binary format). You can set some basic properties on the command-line, e.g.: MSIEXEC /i Firefox.MSI INSTALLEVEL=5 For something more advanced, you will need an MSI/MST editor. I can try and send you a copy of the ORCA.MSI ins...

Re: Question about Flash player
We've been doing it that way for years, and it's what I personally recommend. Disable the Flash install embedded with the FrontMotion MSI, and install and update Flash independently of Firefox.
