Enterprise Firefox related links

Post by DraconPern » Tue Jan 09, 2018 2:03 pm

The pages around Firefox enterprise are a bit hard to find, and Bugzilla is hard to navigate. Here are some links that I think will be interesting to people using the MSI and group policy, mainly for the comments.

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=MSI (Provide Firefox MSI package)
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=267888 (Windows Group Policies support (make Firefox configurable with domain group policy objects))

Somewhat relevant, but here is chrome's (overkill, imho) implementation https://chromium.googlesource.com/chrom ... der_win.cc

I'll update the list link as time goes on, but I made this post to gather the links in one easy to see page.

So I am curious what people's plans are when the next ESR comes around?

I don't see a lot of help in the link about the MSI... doesn't look like there's really a solution, except *maybe* that one MSI wrapper.

My plans are to continue on with the ESR MSI releases you are putting out, assuming you do continue putting them out.

Thanks!

I had a little difficulty gleaning the issue at hand from those links, so correct me if I'm wrong here, but the issue you're attempting to bring to our attention is that Mozilla is going to implement a policy management engine in Firefox starting with the 67(?) mainstream version and 60 ESR version and that policy management engine is going to be agnostic about management environments, like Active Directory and Group Policy, and treat them all the same by making people deploy preference files or something to that effect. Is that right? Some of the comments in the threads were unhappy that Mozilla was going the wrong direction by foregoing ADM(X) templates for GPOs.

To answer the question posed in the thread, I will also continue to use FrontMotion Firefox CE ESR and its management templates (ADMX) as long as they are the best solution for management of a Firefox browser instance.
