v9.0.1 Issues

Post by vtk » Wed Jan 25, 2012 3:17 pm

I realize I may be double-posting here, but I just wanted to post all my current issues in regards to my FMCE v9.0.1 push, and hope to get some comments:

*) Ad-block Plus Add-On not enabled by default:
- So, in my environment, I have some users who've never had ABP installed, some who installed it themselves (yes I know all about the xpinstall option to block users from installing add-ons, but our current IT policy doesn't require it) and some that were installed for test purposes and later removed. This mix has led to 4 different options when the user first launches v9.0.1
~) they get the Add-On Manager screen where either it lets them enable it first then checks for updates or it just checks for updates or it does nothing and the user has ABP disabled by default :S
~) they get nothing and its disabled by default
~) they get a tab within FMCE that asks them to enable/install the addon

So far, the only suggestions to this issue of ours was here: http://forums.frontmotion.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1255 and unfortunately, these suggestions were a no-go for us. I appreciate any and all feedback!

*) Self-signed certificate based sites giving Bad URL error
- Thankfully, we are aware of only 1 install where the user, unless they specifically add the self-signed-cert based site's URL to their exception list they get a bad url error. As it turns out this seems to be a known-issue with no result as documented here: http://forums.frontmotion.com/viewtopic ... url+is+not

Unfortunately, the suggestion is really a work-around and I would appreciate any and all feedback on possible solutions to the issue! :)

*) Upon pinning FMCE in Win 7, the pins list FMCE v9.0.1 as MozillaDeveloperPreview
- Yes, I realize this is a minor issue, however, I have very panicky users who although could tell the icon was the same, because the name wasn't started freaking out and calling into our queue thinking they were hacked. Trust me 100+ people pestering you over minutia is not a fun day in the office to say the least! ;) That being said, Eric and I have had some chats about this issue here: http://forums.frontmotion.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1252 and it seems like this may have become a bigger issue for Symantec A/V users now as well... If there is a way to choose in the packager what the resource strings for the executable list as or what we can change/override the Help-->About menu display I'd appreciate it.

TIA for all of your hard work Eric and thank you for keeping us Enterprise users going with the latest greatest Firefox out there!

To answer your first problem, this might be an answer I've just found... and not yet tested : http://blog.ffextensionguru.com/2011/11 ... -controls/
Let me know if it works before I deploy FMCE 9.0.1.
I have also encountered a problem with Tab Mix Plus that is described in my answer to your post.... this one bothers me a lot

Eric,

Please please please when you are compiling 10-ERS take into account especially the naming issue... I've had more complaints than ANYTHING else, when it comes to the name. MozillaDeveloperPreview is just not something the users expect to see and then they freak out :S
