For 10.0.2, I am thinking about changing the default google search to use google custom search to support the project. The search result page will look like the result through http://www.google.com/cse/home?cx=partn ... 8063&hl=en Thoughts? WIll this confuse people?

Hi
I think it's not a good idea... You could just add it in the search providers but not make it as default search engine.
That's my opinion.
See you

While I understand the need to fund the project, if it in any way is noticeable to the users, then I'd have to say no. Those strange square boxes that surround all the searches look weird compared to standard Google results.

I feel the same way. Whenever I see a non normal search results from Google I'm thinking malware or a browser hijacking. Please don't do this. It will lead to my users to be confused and more calls to support.

I have no problem with a pre-configurated search engine- if I can change this if required..
If i get it for free, I must live with a little bit advocacy advertising.
Second - the normal useres will see the "FMFirefoxCE", but nobody knows what it is and will ignore it, I think so.

Anything else....
In my opinion - CE ~ Community Edition is not the perfect description. FM Firefox Business Edition? Enterprice Edition? Network Edition ? Adminstrative Network Edition ?

The search landing page linked above isn't really what people are talking about. You need to perform a search to see that the search result formatting is quite different from normal Google search output.

While I have a problem with changing the community edition, I hope the regular FF remains unchanged.

Any time estimate on the FF 10.0.x msi release date?

Oh yes, now I see the differents ... - ok, forget it! (sorry!)
30% of users will ask me to get her old Google Search back, I think so.

Wouldn't bother me one bit, but, well, I have to preconfigure the profiles so I couldn't use it. That's the great thing about default settings - if you don't like it, you can always change them.

This might lead to many questions from users as the results shown have a different design and new features from Google search are missing. Please do not do this. Ask for some donations instead.

It looks like this change was made in 10.0.4 and it confused me. Please go back to the regular Google Search in 10.0.5.

I see that the custom search engine is also included in FMFirefoxCEESR-10.0.5-de.msi

Is it possible to change the search providers via gpo to default?
I´ve stopped the public deploying because the user are confused with the custom search engine.

sure can. You can do an admin install point and change firefox\searchplugins\google.xml to not submit the cx value. Just remove that <param line with the partner-pub id.

Works with admin install point :)

Thx
