Set default profile location

Post by ChrisM » Thu Jan 19, 2006 5:45 am

Is there a way to set (in the adm file?) where users profiles are stored? All our users on our department network have a Unix samba network drive onto which they store all their files. This saves any loss of work if their desktop pc should suffer a fault or they want to work on another pc. It seems that by default, firefox stores profiles in the c:\documents and setting\username... folder, can this be set to use their network drive instead?

We don't want to use roaming profiles, we use folder redirection instead, and the thought of explaining to everyone how to make a new profile where you manually specify the profile location is too painfull.

Cheers

Chris

I have the same question as ChrisM. Is it possible to specify in the mozilla.adm template where to put the user's profile folder? I'd like to to put it somewhere other than Appdata.

Thanks,

Steve

Unfortunatly Firefox doesn't have a way to specify a profile location. You can move other things like cache, etc.

Since you are using folder redirection, you can specify a redirection with %USERNAME% in AD. Probably redirect (AppData)\Mozilla to H:\%username%\AppData. As for migrating existing profiles, you will need to manually copy them to the user's directory.

Just a note that this Microsoft KB details folder redirection http://support.microsoft.com/kb/232692.
