Transform for FFCE 2.0

Post by Trippynet » Thu Nov 02, 2006 8:29 am

I've been using FFCE at my place of work since version 1.5.0.1 and it's been fantastic. The only thing which has ever irked me is the shortcut names and icons (through no fault of FrontMotion obviously, licenses are there to be adhered to).

However, I've created a simple transform for FFCE which renames the icons to "Mozilla Firefox" and changes the icon back to make it seem more familiar for users. All other FrontMotion branding is left fully intact. Tested it with the enGB build of FFCE and it works great. I've uploaded it onto my site in case anyone else would find it useful and the link is here.

Once again, top marks for FFCE 2.0, it's a godsend where I work. Hopefully this transform may come in useful for some other people though.

Hello,

I've used your transform successfully until I applied it on a fresh install with no pre-existing firefox installed.
Problem : no firefox icon is installed on the desktop.

Could this be a bug in your transform ?

Mikael

Does this transform work for FFCE 2.0.0.1?

Just a note, transforms have to 'installed' before the MSI is deployed. They literally change the MSI.

Hello, the transform for 2.0 will not work with 2.0.0.1, however there's now an updated transform on the page which does work. As before, I've only tested it with the en-GB build of FFCE 2.0.0.1, I haven't done strenuous testing either. But it works on my systems without any problems. Enjoy, and to DraconPern: Thanks for FFCE 2.0.0.1!

Trippynet, i take a look at your transform.

Is it very necessary to import your icons from a external cab?
I mean, you can stream directly the icons in the transforms via ORCA, no?

info:
in the MST, you'll have to change the description of the 'safe-mode' shortcut. You've plugged this : 'Run Mozilla Firefox in Safe Mode(Version 1.5.0.1).

It works perfectly on the 2.0.0.1 danish version.

Hello,

It is possible to stream them into the transform directly and I may look at this in the future. For now I was concentrating mainly on getting it working. Thanks also for pointing out the error with the safe mode description. I'll get this fixed when FFCE 2.0.0.2 comes out.
