Transition of community edition to use policy extension
Post

I have been following Mark Sammons's great work on Firefox Group Policy Extension (
http://in-cider.spaces.live.com/Persona ... 02_owner=1). The project has already gone beyond the capability of the current Firefox Community Edition by providing several extra features. So, I am thinking of transitioning the Community edition to use his policy extension.
There are several benefits
- Use of official binary and logo
- Support for default values
- Larger user base
- mozilla.adm will be updated so settings can be set 4 ways. User locked pref and default pref; machine locked pref and default pref.
And here are some issues
- Users can disable the extension, so your locked settings can be overriden if they really want to.
- firefox.adm can't be used
- import on first start can't be disabled (workaround: http://www.brianmadden.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=65879)
- Policy setting will need to be migrated

Thank you for your mail.
Don't hesitate if you need my help, I'll be more than happy to help you.
I have already done some "light" GPO for the extensions I'm using. They just concern the configurations I needed to be set but I can go further.
Mark has made a new version of his GPO extension. Will you include it in the Building engine ?
And how is the MVP going on ?
