Transition of community edition to use policy extension

Post by DraconPern » Mon Nov 20, 2006 1:17 am

I have been following Mark Sammons's great work on Firefox Group Policy Extension (http://in-cider.spaces.live.com/Persona ... 02_owner=1). The project has already gone beyond the capability of the current Firefox Community Edition by providing several extra features. So, I am thinking of transitioning the Community edition to use his policy extension.

There are several benefits
  1. Use of official binary and logo
  2. Support for default values
  3. Larger user base
  4. mozilla.adm will be updated so settings can be set 4 ways. User locked pref and default pref; machine locked pref and default pref.
And here are some issues
  1. Users can disable the extension, so your locked settings can be overriden if they really want to.
  2. firefox.adm can't be used
  3. import on first start can't be disabled (workaround: http://www.brianmadden.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=65879)
  4. Policy setting will need to be migrated

Thank you for your mail.
Don't hesitate if you need my help, I'll be more than happy to help you.
I have already done some "light" GPO for the extensions I'm using. They just concern the configurations I needed to be set but I can go further.

Mark has made a new version of his GPO extension. Will you include it in the Building engine ?

And how is the MVP going on ?
