Event ID 308 & 1058

Post by mattartist » Thu Jul 12, 2007 11:34 am

Hi,

There's some brief but inconclusive discussion about this already.

In short, I've attempted to deploy FF running the 2.0.0.4.msi through GP. The .msi is on an all-access share.

On all 3 test machines, Mozilla Firefox doesn't install. PCs A and C however show Mozilla Firefox on the Program list but the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox target doesn't exist i.e. no Mozilla Folder was created.

Event ID Information 308 is on PCs, B and C which states "Changes to Software installation settings were applied successfully". And PC, A is has Event ID error 1058.

I've looked at MS Knowledge base but the measures seem extreme and more confusingly, the results have been so different.

Has anyone else encountered this who can point me in the right direction.

Many thanks
Matt

check the security on the MSI to make sure the clients can read them.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Yep, have done that. All have At least 'read and execute' but mostly 'Modify' level. No deny boxes checked.

Any other tips?

Thanks again.

Make sure the package is assigned and not advertised.

Can you do a logging of the install process manually.

msiexec /i "path to msi on network.msi" /l*v "c:\firefoxinstall.log"

Thanks

HI,

Thanks again. Funnily enough, the install process worked on test machines now - 24hrs later. I wonder if it was to do with propagation of the GP between domain control servers.

Now to create a GP for the rest of the computers. Fingers crossed... Will try the log if any issues.

And thanks for a brilliant resource! :)
